What’s the best time to visit Fuerteventura? The Canary Islands are in an almost perfect position for what concerns the weather, there is a spring-like temperature all year long, but in my opinion September and October are the best months to go to Fuerteventura. In these months, in fact, the strong wind cuts the tourists some slack and the temperature reaches very high peaks.
I will only mention the North of the Island because i haven’t had time to visit also the South! If you have the resources, my advice about the hotel is to choose the Riu Oliva Beach Resort that is all inclusive and right on the Corralejo Dunes Beach (one of the best beaches of the whole island). If instead you choose any other hotel of the island, the stop at the Corralejo Dunes is a must!
I would recommend renting a car to tour the island, there are few roads and many road signs therefore you can reach effortlessly every places you want to visit (avoid the off-roading with rental cars because the insurance doesn’t include unpaved roads).
The first stop could be Corralejo, very pretty town ideal for shopping with typical shops perfect for buying some souvenirs.
Continuing towards El Cotillo you can see the lighthouse and the Tostòn Tower.
On the way from the lighthouse to the tower, don’t miss the Concha Beach (Playa de la Concha, still in El Cotillo), one of the most beautiful beach i’ve ever seen! White sand and transparent sea:
You will find an italian restaurant right in front of this beach: (Azzurro – http://www.azzurro.es/ita/index.html) (and especially an Italian coffee which is essential for Italians like me!)
La Oliva Town is very characteristic to visit:
On the way from La Oliva to the South of Fuerteventura you can stop to take a photograph of the Tindaya Mountain, considered a sacred place in ancient times:
Don’t miss the quad-bike tour through the North of the Island,
but especially the tour with Fuertecharter (http://www.fuertecharter.com/) to visit the Isla de Lobos (it costs 55€ each person but it’s worth!). Ask about the tour at reception desk of your hotel or in the centre of Corralejo and book it as soon as possible because the seats finish quickly. The Fuertecharter team will pick you up at your hotel and, leaving by catamaran from Corralejo, they will bring you to Isla de Lobos. The excursion includes unlimited drinks, music, photos (even underwater) throughout the tour:
